Bloody Mary Macarons.

Yes, you read that right! On Friday night, I attended the Lombardi Food & Wine Experience at the Pfister. This is such a lovely event featuring fare from 20 regional restaurants, plus tastings from 35 vineyards and a selection of craft beers—benefiting a great cause.

While this event was focused on wine (plus craft beer and a late night martini), one of the restaurants did surprise and delight me when I stumbled upon their Bloody Mary Macarons!

In case you’re not familiar, macarons are predominantly a sweet, meringue-based French confection made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder and food coloring. The macaron is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam filling sandwiched between two cookies.

Macarons can be found in a wide variety of flavors ranging from the traditional (vanilla, raspberry) to the new, like the Bloody Mary one, featured by Eddie Martini’s, one of Milwaukee’s premier fine dining restaurants, known for its steaks, chops and seafood.

I was so excited to try the macaron and while it was delicious, I am a little disappointed to admit that it did not have the Bloody Mary taste I was hoping for; instead, I found the flavor to be more like that of a red velvet cupcake.

Oh well, c’est la vie! Still fun to try something new!

You’ll want to clear your schedule for next Sunday, November 11. It’s Milwaukee’s Biggest Bloody Mary Party at Great Lakes Distillery!

This is the third year that I’ll have attended this fun event (not sure how many years it has been going on). I highly recommend you come check it out between 10am and 6om.
