Previously, I’d only been to Landmark Lanes on Milwaukee’s East Side for the Tomato Romp; however, this past weekend, I found myself there for a Big Lebowski-themed holiday party.
The movie was playing on the screens, bowling ball petit fours decorated the tables and the White Russians were flowing… but first I had to get a Bloody Mary.
Spice: Spicy
Mix: Unknown
Chaser: No
Fixin’s: Lemon, Lemon, Two Olives
Price: $?
This was a pretty spicy drink, but it was very good.
Landmark Lanes is always my must-stop place for a Bloody Mary when I get back to Milwaukee, and I’m surprised at the question marks here. Perhaps it was because you were there for a special event when it was quite busy. Every time I’ve gone (usually a Saturday or Sunday around Noon or 1 PM), the bloody marys there have always been made from scratch — never from a pre-made mix — and they always offer a beer chaser. Anything they have on draft can be a chaser, and is included in the price of the bloody. And since I’m sitting at the bar watching them make it, they always ask how spicy I want it. (Medium-hot)
The secret to their bloody mary is that there is no secret. It’s simple perfection, with nothing at all fancy about it. Salt, pepper, Aboslut vodka (though they’ll substitute others if you ask), Sacramento tomato juice from a can, a little lemon juice, a little lime juice, worcestershire, and hot sauce, and garnished with a couple of olives. That’s it. (Well, maybe celery salt; I don’t recall.)
