Thanks to Camaronazo for sending me two bottles of Bloody Mary mix to review!

Between going “out for bloodies” and my travel schedule, it’s been a while since I made them at home; however, I hosted family and friends for the Super Bowl this past weekend and put it to the test, along with another mix I reviewed in a separate post. Read on.

There are many tomato juice-clam cocktails in the market but Camaronazo, according to its website, is “a unique, first of its kind, shrimp tomato juice which caters to our consumer’s taste preference for shrimp (“camaron”) over clam.”

Growing in popularity in both the U.S. and Latin America (the brand says it is becoming a leader among Hispanic consumers), Camaronazo can be enjoyed on its own, or used as a food base complement in many Hispanic dishes, such as shrimp cocktails, ceviche and micheladas.

The mix is offered in 3 sizes – 64oz, 32oz and 16.1 oz – and two flavors – regular and spicy.

At this particular party, we only tried the regular mix.

To keep the test pure, I sampled Camaronazo mixed with an unflavored Skyy Vodka and added Celery, Olives, Cheese, Lemon & Lime, and a Shrimp (naturally) as fixin’s.

The verdict: The overall flavor of this mix was very good and extremely fresh… however, we agreed that we really could not detect a shrimp flavor and that there really wasn’t a hint of seafood-ness about it.

Perhaps the spicy mix will fare differently? Only time will tell–we’ll be sure to follow up and let you know.

I recently tried Durty Gurl Bloody Mary Mix and made myself a Bloody Mary using the mix, along with Skyy Vodka and my own fixin’s.

This company offers a complete line of cocktail mixers and garnishes, from cherries and to onions and Bloody Mary to Margarita mix, they’ve thought of everything.

The Bloody Mary Mix in particular comes in Classic, Spicy and Habanero & Horseradish Varieties. I tried the Classic and while it was no means bad in any way, I wasn’t wowed either; perhaps one of the others might have put a little more pep in my step?

While this particular variety wasn’t a standout, their website is worth checking out—they’ve got some pretty cool stuff, including the Olive of the Month Club.

I recently received a treat from Vintage Vine Mix, a company out of Chicago, IL. 

The mix comes in a 32oz jar for $8 and is gluten-free. The story on the website states that “Two college friends set out to create the perfect Bloody Mary and Vintage Vine was born.”

I used this mix for Bloody Marys on Christmas morning:

It tasted very fresh with just a hint of spice. I didn’t feel the need to add anything to the mix—it was perfect.

Vintage Vine has been involved in many Chicagoland events, from Lollapalooza to other Bloody Mary festivals and it’s easy to see why. If you have the chance, check them out!

I recently received a treat from The Real Dill, Co., a company that specialized in “hand-crafted, artisan pickles” from Denver, Colorado.

The mix comes n a 32-oz. jar, is 100% natural and slightly spicy. The ingredients are: fresh cucumber water, organic tomato paste, vinegar, salt, fresh dill, fresh horseradish, fresh habanero, spices, and fresh garlic.

Very, very flavorful mix and it tasted just so very fresh. The only drawbacks are: 1) I didn’t have any Real Dill Co. pickles to add as fixin’s for a true taste experience and 2) at 32-oz., I was only able to make two bloodies (what are the rest of you guys gonna drink? :))

But all kidding aside, awesome mix. Highly recommend. Thank you so much, Real Dill!
