Bloody Mary Dip.

I purchased this Robert Rosthschild Farm’s Bloody Mary Dip on my recent trip to Door County, from Seaquist Orchards.

The dip, a blend of tomato, dill, lemon and worcestershire, has the perfect amount of zip and retails for $9.99 at Seaquist.

A quick Google search also led me to the company’s website, where it is available for a comparable $10.49. According to the company, suggested uses are: as a zesty addition to a turkey wrap; blending with mayonnaise and using to dress a seafood salad; or pairing well with crunchy kettle chips.

My use? I brought it over to share with the fam on Thanksgiving as an appetizer. We served it with celery, cherry tomatoes, carrots and crackers. It was very yummy and you could definitely taste the horseradish.

I would definitely recommend trying this dip—it’s a change from the typical dill/ranch dips and I will also try it as a spread!

Today, I played a round of golf with my dad. I thought I had stored my sticks for the season, but when it’s 60 degrees on November 18 in Wisconsin, you have to take advantage of it!

Via Twitter, I had been alerted to the Bloody Marys at 4th Base in West Milwaukee, right near Miller Park. So, when we finished our round, I told dad I was taking him for Bloodies there while we watched the end of the Packers game.

4th Base, for those of you who haven’t been there, is a sports bar/restaurant with a unique twist—there’s no menu. All the food is made to order and they specialize in everything from burgers to steaks & seafood. It’s a little hard to wrap your head around at first, but when it comes down to it, it’s fun and different.

We arrived in the 4th quarter of the game and the place was rocking—it was very loud between the TVs, the piped in music and the rowdy crowd. We sat in the corner and ordered up two Bloodies. Here’s my review.

Spice: The drinks had a nice flavor to them, but I wouldn’t call them spicy.

Mix: Unsure.

Chaser: Choose from a variety of beers on tap; you get a whole pint glass full, so choose wisely. It’s like two drinks in one!

Fixin’s: Pickle, Asparagus, Beans, Snap Peas, Broccoli, Zucchini and the kicker—it’s topped with homemade onion straws.

Price: $8

For the bragging done up front about their bloodies, I think 4th Base came through in the end. Definitely worth the price and something different!

Today, I went to the  Milwaukee’s Largest Bloody Mary Party at Great Lakes Distillery. This was the third year for this event, and the third year for us attending it as well. Each year, there are more and more people attending, which is a great sign. This year was especially great as Great Lakes Distillery has added on a fantastic bar in the last year, adding more seating and ambiance to the venue.

For just $5 and a donation of food to Hunger Task Force, you get part of a 100 gallon Bloody Mary made with Rehorst Gin or Vodka and Jimmy Luv’s mix. It comes with a pickle, olive and Klement’s beef stick.

This year, they added in a garnish competition. Trocadero and INdustri Cafe sold skewers of items that you could add to your Bloody. I purchased a skewer from Trocadero (pictured above—cheese, peppers, pepperoni and olives).

There were also samples of pickled asparagus and beans from Steppin’ Out Foods, as well as extra cheese cubes and teriyaki beef sticks to try at another table.

Needless to say, the Bloodies were flowing and they were awesome!

The Klement’s Famous Racing Sausages made an appearance at the event and raffle prizes were given away throughout the day.

In addition to the donations of food, all proceeds from the event benefit the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee.

While we’re on the topic of Chicago, I wanted to post this review of Rockit’s Bloody Mary Bar from my trip there in June.

This is one of the top Bloodies that I have ever had and I was bummed that I wasn’t there on a Saturday or Sunday during this trip to partake.

My trip there was on a Saturday for the Acoustic Brunch. The food was excellent, the music was amazing and the Bloodies were Bloody Awesome!

This is by far the largest BYOBMB (Build Your Own Bloody Mary Bar) that I’ve ever seen and, at $5 all day, this is a terrific value.

I highly encourage you to check out Rockit next time you’re in Chicago! Or, make the drive down just for the Bloody. You won’t be disappointed!

Howl At The Moon, Chicago, IL

This week, I took a short trip to Chicago for work, so of course I wanted to scope out a bloody while I was here.

The only problem was that I wasn’t able to order one until after I got done with some work and met my colleagues out…at a piano bar….at 10pm.

For those of you who haven’t been, Howl at the Moon is a piano bar that is popular in quite a few states. It is know for its yard and fish bowl drinks… not its Bloodies and now I know why.

I was not very impressed with this Bloody, but to be fair, I also didn’t expect much. Go for the atmosphere instead.

Spice: It had a little kick to it.

Mix: Unsure, but not homemade. It was a bottled mix that I didn’t recognize.

Chaser: None.

Fixin’s: Lemon, two Olives

Price: $8

Bloody Mary Macarons.

Yes, you read that right! On Friday night, I attended the Lombardi Food & Wine Experience at the Pfister. This is such a lovely event featuring fare from 20 regional restaurants, plus tastings from 35 vineyards and a selection of craft beers—benefiting a great cause.

While this event was focused on wine (plus craft beer and a late night martini), one of the restaurants did surprise and delight me when I stumbled upon their Bloody Mary Macarons!

In case you’re not familiar, macarons are predominantly a sweet, meringue-based French confection made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder and food coloring. The macaron is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam filling sandwiched between two cookies.

Macarons can be found in a wide variety of flavors ranging from the traditional (vanilla, raspberry) to the new, like the Bloody Mary one, featured by Eddie Martini’s, one of Milwaukee’s premier fine dining restaurants, known for its steaks, chops and seafood.

I was so excited to try the macaron and while it was delicious, I am a little disappointed to admit that it did not have the Bloody Mary taste I was hoping for; instead, I found the flavor to be more like that of a red velvet cupcake.

Oh well, c’est la vie! Still fun to try something new!

The third Bloody I enjoyed this past weekend up in Door County was at Husby’s located in downtown Sister Bay. Husby’s is one of the few true watering holes in Door County and a great place for late night fun.

We had dinner here and watched Game 3 of the World Series, so this was an evening Bloody Mary experience. It was a good complement to the tasty burger & fries.

Spice: It had a little kick to it.

Mix: Unsure.

Chaser: The bartender asked me if I would like one, but never delivered.

Fixin’s: Lemon, Beefstick, Cheese, Olive, Pickle

Price: Unknown

The second Bloody I enjoyed this past weekend up in Door County was at Cooper’s Corner, located just down the street from Bayside Tavern. Home of the former C&C Supper Club, I expected Cooper’s to have a traditional Bloody Mary and yes, that’s what I got.

Especially, after tasting the Bayside Bloody, this one was nothing special to write home about, but still very good.

Spice: Not very.

Mix: Zing Zang

Chaser: A small shot of local brew.

Fixin’s: Olive, Mushroom, Pickle

Price: $8

This weekend, I visited Door County with some friends. I’ve been visiting Door County on an almost yearly basis since I was a young child, so I love the Door and am pretty familiar with many of the local restaurants and shops. And, while the peninsula is well known for its wineries, not much has been said about its Bloodies. Well, that’s about to change as I tested out the Bloody Marys at three separate establishments, which I will cover in individual posts.

First up, is Bayside Tavern in Fish Creek. Although I have not visited Bayside in the past, I did not stumble across this place on accident, folks. This Bloody came highly recommended by my friend, Carol. I absolutely trust Carol’s assessment when it comes to Bloodies and thus, I made it a point to stop at Bayside Tavern. We got in to Door County around 5:30 on Friday evening and I was at the bar at Bayside by about 6:30p—that’s how seriously I took this tip.

Spice: Okay, so this Bloody was not spicy, exactly… it had a little Cajun salt on the rim.

Mix: So, what Carol did not prepare me for at all was the distinctly fishy taste of this Bloody! Not sure if this is accurate or not, but I’m going to guess it is homemade. I’m not exactly sure how to describe this any other way, other than fishy, but (I thought at least) in a good way. And hey, when in Fish Creek…

It would definitely stand out in a competition and I could see where it can be polarizing: you’ll either love it or, if you don’t like fishy, I could see where you would not like this one at all.

Chaser: A small shot of local brew.

Fixin’s: Olive, Mushroom, Brussels Sprout, Pickle, Lemon

Price: $7
