While visiting Florida’s west coast, I stopped by La Croisette, a beloved breakfast spot known for its beachy charm and mouthwatering morning fare. Naturally, I had to sample their Bloody Mary—and while the food stole the show, the drink held its own as a solid sidekick.

Priced at $10.40, this Bloody is made with Zing Zang mix and vodka, and comes garnished with crispy bacon, a sturdy stalk of celery, and a fresh lime wedge. It’s a no-frills take on the classic, without a chaser option, but it fits the laid-back, Florida-coast vibe of the restaurant.

The flavor was classic Zing Zang—savory, a little spicy, and reliably tasty—though not particularly bold or unique. Still, it paired well with the rich and flavorful breakfast dishes the spot is known for. (Pro tip: come hungry!)

Whether you’re fueling up for a day at St. Pete Beach, or just soaking in the vacation vibes, La Croisette is definitely worth a stop. While the Bloody isn’t the star of the show here, it plays a solid supporting role in a delicious brunch experience.

The Bloody Mary

Spices/Flavor: Classic Zing Zang mix—savory and slightly spicy
Fixin’s: Bacon, celery, lime
Chaser: None offered
Presentation: Simple and unfussy
Price: $10.40

If you’re brunching in Tampa and craving a comforting Bloody to kick off your day, La Croisette offers just that—with a side of sunshine and great eats.

This weekend, I ventured to the east side of Milwaukee to visit Saint Bibiana, a cozy spot tucked away on Brady Street. It’s rare for me to get over to this area, but I’d heard great things about the food and drinks, so I couldn’t resist checking it out while in the area to pick up some essentials at Glorioso’s and Scortino’s Bakery.

Of course, I ordered their Bloody Mary, which was made with Zing Zang as the base and “doctored up” with various spices, per the bartender. The presentation was simple yet classic, with a garnish of pickle, olive, lemon, and lime. The cutest touch? A mini can of Lil Buddy beer served as the chaser. It was as delicious as it was charming.

For lunch, I paired my drink with the Ooey Gooey Brie Grilled Cheese sandwich, which felt like an elevated version of grilled cheese and tomato soup—a perfect companion to the Bloody Mary. The fries were crisp, well-seasoned, and just what I needed.

While I don’t make it to Brady Street often, Saint Bibiana might be worth the trip again. Its cozy vibe, great food, and expertly crafted Bloody Mary make it a spot I’d happily recommend.

The Bloody Mary

Spices/Flavor: Zing Zang mix, well-enhanced

Fixin’s: Pickle, olive, lemon, lime

Chaser: Lil Buddy beer (adorable mini can!)

Price: I believe this was $11.50

Oh— and if, like me, you’re wondering who Saint Bibiana is/was… she is the Patron Saint of Hangovers. This Bloody probably has something to do with that.

Last week, I was honored to be hosted for a round of golf at Tuckaway Country Club in Franklin, Wisconsin. We had a great time playing and carried the conversation over to the lovely patio for a couple of post-round beverages.

It’s not every day you get to visit a private country club and play their course and try their Bloody Mary, so we made sure to grab one to review.

Spice & Mix: Zing Zang as a base, doctored up by the bartender

Fixin’s: Pickle and Olive

Chaser: None offered.

Price: $Unknown

While there was nothing unique about these bloodies, like airports, there is just something about bloodies on the golf course that hit different. As such, these bloodies were very tasty and went down easily.

We recently visited Atlanta again,  where we visited Six Feet Under, a popular pub and fish house across from the famous Oakland Cemetery, for the second time.

We enjoyed the Fish House Bloody Mary on our last visit and on this one, we were able to try their Build Your Own Bloody Mary Option:

MIX:  Choose from Zing Zang, Clamato, and Major Peters

CHASER: Guiness

FIXIN’S: As you can see from the photo, there were many hot sauces, pickles, peppers, onions, etc. to choose from (but no meat and cheese!)

PRICE: $? Unsure

As we said before, threy get bonus points for the salt/spice on the rim of the glass which is very tasty. On this visit, we used Major Peter’s and loaded up on the veggies. We were disappointed that we didn’t get an oyster on top, but we ordered a dozen with our lunch, so we didn’t totally miss out.

Again, this is a great bar to check out if you’re in the area–even better if you can snag a spot on their rooftop patio!

While in Atlanta, we dined at Seasons 52 in Buckhead.

We had sampled the Bloody Mary (or so we thought) at Seasons 52 while in Phoenix earlier this spring and found it to be rather pedestrian. However, this menu listing caught our eye:

Seasons 52 Bloody Mary Nectar

We definitely didn’t remember a “Bloody Mary Nectar” being offered, so we decided we had to try it.

Bloody Mary Nectar Seasons 52

MIX:  House mix, made with crushed tomatoes and sriracha–plus gin! (so technically, a red snapper?)

CHASER: None

FIXIN’S: Mint, sundried tomato

PRICE: $9.95

We were very glad we gave Seasons 52 a second chance. This one was excellent–very different, the perfect mixture of sweet and spicy and, of course, extremely fresh. We wish there was a Seasons 52 near us so we could have the Bloody Nectar more often. Be sure to give it a go if you find yourself in a Seasons 52!

Our travels next took us to Atlanta, where we visited Six Feet Under, a popular pub and fish house across from the famous Oakland Cemetery.

There, we enjoyed seafood tacos and oysters upon oysters, including one that came in our Fish House Bloody Mary:

Six Feet Under Atlanta

Atlanta Six Feet Under Bloody Mary

MIX:  Zing Zang and Absolut Peppar

CHASER: Guiness

FIXIN’S: Celery, lime and an oyster (ours was missing the olives!)

PRICE: $8

This Bloody Mary was excellent because we enjoy Zing Zang and the addition of the oyster made it fun. They also get bonus points for the salt/spice on the rim of the glass.

This is a great bar to check out if you’re in the area–even better if you can snag a spot on their rooftop patio!

In Michigan, we stopped at an adorable place aptly called Toast for brunch.

Toast has a couple of different bloodies on its menu:

Toast Birmingham Bloody Mary List

On this visit, we went with the Garden Mary to wash down our Greek Omelette.

Toast Bloody Mary

MIX:  Toast has a house mix that they described as spicy… it had a little zest to it, but we’ve had much spicier. That’s not to say it wasn’t good, however.  The Garden Mary typically comes with cucumber vodka and Zing Zang, but we wanted to try the house mix, so they substituted for us.

CHASER: None offered

FIXIN’S: Two Olives, Cucumber Slice, Pickle

PRICE: $9.50

This drink was very flavorful and fresh. We really liked the atmosphere here at Toast and hope to get back soon to try the other varieties of Bloody Marys as well as some other menu items!

This doesn’t quite count, but I felt like it deserved a shoutout.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites by Hilton for part of my trip. For the uninitiated, they offer complimentary breakfast an an evening cocktail reception.

Yep, 7 days a week, you can get hot made-to-order morning meals and enjoy snacks and cocktails gratis from 5:30-7:30pm.

Embassy SuitesI ordered a Bloody Mary (shocker, I know) and while it had no frills, it was made with one of my favorite mixes-Zing Zang- and it was free.

This is a great perk for the traveler and since I was on my own most of the time, this reception afforded me the opportunity to meet some new people/make friends during my extended stay.

I highly recommend the Embassy Suites, not just for this perk, but for their exceptional service and accommodations at an affordable price.

It certainly has been a (Bloody Mary) Christmas as the Bloody Mary gifts keep rolling in! Last night, I received a bottle of Bakon Vodka from my cousin Steve and his wife Sally. My aunt Rose and Uncle Greg gave me a bottle of Zing Zang mix (one of my faves!) and this lovely Bloody Mary t-shirt which reads “Mary Me.”

And then this morning, my parents gave me this Modern Cocktail Bloody Mary spice gift set!

I am now more than all set to mix up some cocktails at home in 2013… I smell a party coming on!

Hope you are all having a safe and Merry Christmas!

Cheers!
