Spend any amount of time in Arizona and you’ll quickly learn about Four Peaks Brewing Company.

We checked out their Tempe location on a recent visit and, while they’re known for their beer and good food, we had to give their Bloody Mary a shot, too:

Four Peaks

Mix: Homemade

Chaser: None…but we ordered a Short Hop on the side.

Fixin’s: Two olives, lemon, lime

Price: $?

This Bloody Mary was good, but I suggest sticking with beer if you have to make a choice; that’s what they’re known for, after all. The food is also delicious at this hot spot, so come hungry!

I can’t believe we haven’t come across these earlier… Bloody Mary Cheese Curds!

Bloody Mary Cheese Curds (2)

Made in Wautoma, Wisconsin by Stoneridge, these cheddar curds are seasoned with tomato powder, worcestershire powder, celery salt and jalapeno pepper juice.

We were excited to try these; however, while they were good (have you ever had a bad cheese curd?), had we not known they were Bloody Mary flavored, we wouldn’t have guessed that was what they were trying to achieve. Perhaps some horseradish or pickle juice would help?

Still, we recommend–a great addition to your build your own Bloody bar!

It’s a chain restaurant and we’ve been there before, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t post another time about the Ultimate Bloody Louie—Bar Louie’s Bloody Mary.

Bar Louie

Spice: The menu describes it as “a little spicy, a little tangy and a whole lot of flavor.” I would concur.

Mix: Unsure, but likely homemade. The bloody also is made with Absolut Peppar, Guinness Stout and Tobasco.

Chaser: None provided, but the bloody itself contains Guinness Stout.

Fixin’s: lemon, lime, two olives, pickle, celery stick, bacon and a piece of provolone cheese

Price: Approximately $10

We’ve already reviewed the Bloody Mary at Storyhill BKC in Milwaukee, but on a recent visit, we discovered a new addition to their menu… the Bloody Mary Salad!

Storyhill BKC Bloody Mary Salad

Storyhill BKC Bloody Mary SaladFilled with tomatoes, salami, baby kale, cured olives, cubed cheddar cheese, pickles, capers and shaved celery, then mixed with a tomato vinaigrette and soft croutons, this salad is a masterpiece. You almost don’t even miss the vodka.

I highly recommend ordering this salad for brunch/lunch and washing it down with one of their bloodies, of course.

This morning, I had brunch with two friends at Wolf Peach in Milwaukee. I had previously reviewed their Bloody Mary in the fall of 2013, but I felt this merited a new review since the drink seems to have changed.

Wolf Peach

Spice: I ordered it spicy and it arrived with just the right amount of spice.

Mix: Unsure

Chaser: Rhinelander shorty offered, but I declined (it was before 11am)

Fixin’s:  Olive, Peppers, Mushroom, Lemon, Lime, Cheese and Beef

Price: $9.50

I had enjoyed their Bloody Mary previously and this one, although they added fixin’s and the chaser option, was just not the same as I remember. It was still good, don’t get me wrong, but I think I liked that first Bloody better.

The food, however, was delicious! As you can see from the menu, their brunch selection is very rich. I ended up ordering the smashburger breakfast and couldn’t finish the enormous portion. I recommend checking out this spot for dinner or brunch–in addition to the delectable delights, the space is cool and the view of the city is amazing.

Last night, I attended a fundraiser at Cafe 1505 in Mequon. While the event featured wine and beer, it was the Bloody Mary listed on their chalkboard that caught my eye.

Monticello Mary at Cafe 1505

I inquired and was told their Happy Hour “Verde Mary” was not green as I would have thought, but rather just quite spicy. The Monticello, on the other hand, was more unique– it is made using a Sage Liqueur and a homemade miz.

Fortunately, they were serving them even though it was a special event and a Friday night.

Cafe 1505 Bloody Mary

Mix: Homemade with Sacramento Tomato Juice, Sage Liqueur, Pickle Juice and Horseradish

Chaser: No

Fixin’s: Lemon, Lime, Olive, 2 cubes of cheese and a slice of sausage.

Price: $9.50

This Bloody Mary was delicious. You could definitely taste the Sage Liqueur, but it wasn’t too overpowering or distracting. It meshed nicely with the Sacramento tomato juice (my favorite!) and the other flavors.

I would definitely order this drink again and encourage you to give it a try if you find yourself at Cafe 1505.

I was recently in Cincinnati for work; it was going to be a quick trip with limited time to explore, so I did my homework ahead of time.

After scouring several “Best of” lists and cross-referencing by proximity to my hotel, I had narrowed down my list to about 3-4 places. Two of them only served their “special” Bloody Mary on Saturdays and Sundays during a certain time and one place was closed for renovation…which led me to place all my eggs in the basket of The Eagle OTR.

When the fate of your city’s Bloody Mary ranking rests on one place, you want that place to be great. Fortunately, The Eagle delivered.

The Eagle OTR

EAGLE OTR Bloody Mary

Mix:Homemade

Chaser: None…but a shot of Guinness was placed IN the bloody itself.

Fixin’s: Two olives, pickle, a jalapeno, watercress, celery and candied bacon

Price: $9

This Bloody Mary was fantastic. It had just the right amount of spice and the Guinness float added a unique carbonation to the drink.

The best part was the candied bacon. While waiting for my drink, I noticed a couple sharing a basket of candied bacon as an appetizer and my mouth was watering; I was about to order a side myself. Then it arrived in my Bloody Mary and that turned out to be the perfect garnish topping off an already delightful beverage.

If you’re ever in Cincinnati, I encourage you to check out the up-and-coming OTR (Over The Rhine) area for a plethora of trendy bars and restaurants, a surprising dash of nightlife in what I had previously considered to be a sleepy city.

En route to Cincinnati for a conference, I found myself at O’Hare with a healthy layover.

Time for a Bloody Mary!

After some scouting, it was determined that the best option in my terminal was Stanley’s Blackhawk Bar.

Stanley's Blackhawk Bar

Mix: Average at best

Chaser: None

Fixin’s: Two olives, a lemon and a lime

Price: $?

This Bloody Mary was pretty standard, especially when considering this was drink was in the Midwest and an airport, generally two indicators of the chances of getting an above-average beverage.

Definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to seek this out next time I was in the airport; I would have been better off with a can of Mr. and Mrs. T’s and a mini bottle of vodka on the plane.

I was recently in Los Angeles for a very quick trip; however, I was able to sneak in an amazing bloody mary at Franklin & Company.

This tavern has appeared on numerous lists for their multiple Bloody Mary options.  It also came recommended by the Drunken Tomato. So I knew it would be good, but it exceeded my expectations.

Franklin & Company Bloody Mary

There are seven Bloody Marys on their brunch menu, but of course, I had to order the Bloody Royale!

Bloody Royale Bloody Mary Franklin and Company

Mix: Homemade; and the glass was rimmed with…get this… bacon salt

Chaser: Add one for $2

Fixin’s: Celery, onion ring, bacon-wrapped jalapeno, olive, brussels sprout, pickle, English slider, pepperjack cheese

Price: $15

This was definitely worth carving out time for; I highly suggest you stop in to Franklin & Co. if you’re in the area. It’s a short walk from the Hollywood Walk of Fame (where I was coming from when I paid them a visit).

I also enjoyed their tuna burger with homemade chips–and their black cherry ketchup. Simply amazing. I’m in love.

Did you know that January 1 is National Bloody Mary Day? Makes sense on many levels–deal with the hangover from New Year’s Eve, start the new year off on the right foot with the best drink ever concocted, etc.

Well, this year, we were lucky enough to receive a care package from V8, containing their Bloody Mary Mix, Svedka Citrus Vodka, a pint glass and a mixer, to help celebrate the ocassion.

We will admit that we have not yet tried these items, but we’re looking forward to doing so in the not too distant future.

Here at Out For Bloodies, we hope all of you had a safe and wonderful holiday season and we wish you the best for 2015.

Cheers!
